Position Overview:

We are a small CPA firm providing audit, review and tax services to many wonderful nonprofits in the San Francisco Bay Area.

We are looking for an accountant to join our team with an interest in tax preparation for nonprofits. This individual will work directly with our tax manager and firm's partners to prepare complete and accurate annual tax returns (Form 990 and related state forms).

We will consider applicants with a range of experience including individuals coming from a nonprofit background who are interested in working in a CPA firm, to someone with existing experience preparing Form 990s who is looking for a role with potential to grow into greater responsibilities. Our goal is find someone who can ultimately manage tax preparation for a client from start to finish for CPA review.

Responsibilities (may vary somewhat based on experience):

Receive and organize tax preparation materials from clients
Data entry into tax software (Lacerte) based on client materials
Tracking all pending engagements for each tax period deadline against workplan to ensure timely completion of engagements
Coordinate and request missing information needed with client
Review of submitted financials for reasonableness and resolve variances
Respond to client inquiries regarding tax reporting, preparation, and filing
Research federal and state tax rules and areas that are unclear
Seek assistance when needed and go over review notes from tax partner prior to a draft going out to clients

Beneficial qualifications:

Prior tax preparation knowledge or experience
Experience working with nonprofits
A desire to develop increased skills and knowledge in this area.
Form 990 / CA 199 and related forms experience a plus
Practical experience in accounting / bookkeeping or related educational background
Strong communication skills (written and verbal ability to be professional and personable with clients)
Solid computers skills including comfort with Microsoft Word and Excel functionality
Detail oriented and comfortable with data entry
Accounting software experience (Quickbooks, FundEZ, etc.) a plus


Our office is conveniently located in downtown Oakland near public transit (BART and many AC transit lines). The 19th Bart station enters directly into our building
