Job Description The Accounting Manager Position assist the Controller and Assistant Controller in ensuring that monthly close is done on a timely and accurate basis. Provides accounting and Yardi support to the Community Directors. Responsible for the timely completion of named reports such as SDR, Collection reports, Deposit Record, and Notice of rent. The incumbent will supervise a team of Property Accountants PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision of Property Accountants Assist Controller and Asst. Controller with all aspects of month end close. Timely completion of deadlines in accounting calendar that are the responsibility of Accounting Manager. Manage the boxing of year-end files process, including sending to storage and update of appropriate log sheets. Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts and various other monthly reconciliations as requested by Controller. Post corrections in a timely manner. Act as back up for positive pay transactions. Ensure appropriate daily upload of check information is made to the bank. Review bank correspondence. Research issues and post corrections where necessary. Respond to questions and requests from the properties regarding all aspects of Yardi including connectivity and accounting issues. Provide Yardi training to new employees (field) on a monthly basis or as needed. Manage the collection of data for Security Deposit Report (SDR). Publish and collect data for the Collection report, weekly deposit and cash reports and any others as requested. When needed, provide backup to Property Accountants. Develop and implement a cross training plan with the goal of having both primary and secondary backups on all processes, reconciliations, etc. that the department is responsible for. Assist Controller and Assistant Controller with items for the mid-year, and year-end Audits. Able to prepared reports for external accounting firms specifically for preparation of work papers concerning audit, review and/or tax returns. Additional duties and project as assigned QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, and at least two in a supervisory role. Real Estate and/or Property Management experience preferable. Yardi and advance Excel skills required. Excellent communications skills; especially dealing with deadlines and potential accounting issues. Good understanding of processes relating to monthly close including reconciliations, posting and reviewing journal entries and ability to review work done by others for possible mistakes. Clear ability to see through complicated accounting issues to their logical conclusion. Minimize the likelihood of errors going forward.
