Journey Church (FKA Calvary Open Bible Church) is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to support its ministerial staff and church operations. This is a servant-hood position that is vital for accomplishing the administrative tasks necessary to fulfill God's dream for our church. This is a part-time position averaging 24 hours per week (8:30am-2:30pm, no weekends.) The position does not offer benefits. The successful candidate will be self-motivated with a professional demeanor and presence, positive attitude, strong work ethic, and excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. He/she must have knowledge in performing general office work to include data entry, filing, basic banking procedures, computer usage (Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher) and handling frequent inquiries regarding church information. Some knowledge of accounting and/or QuickBooks is desirable. He/she must possess strong organizational skills and excellent time management skills. Must be proficient in office procedures and methods to ensure work flow and have knowledge of office software (desktop publishing, Facebook and web page skills are a bonus). This person must be able to multi-task, be flexible in their job routine, work asa team member in a collaborative environment, be willing to learn new skills and relate well to other church staff, congregants and visitors.


Support for Ministerial Staff

Provide administrative and clerical support for members of the Ministerial staff including scheduling appointments, preparing and mailing correspondence, emailing, handling messages and incoming mail; preparing reports, visual presentations, etc.

Office/Clerical Support

Serve as a receptionist, screening and routing incoming calls and visitors to the Church; Greeting people with a friendly, courteous and helpful attitude; providing pertinent and appropriate information to callers and/or visitors
Prepare and print weekly church bulletins and other special service bulletins or programs
Help prepare and print promotional materials (i.e. postcards, bulletin inserts etc.)
Maintain Church Calendar; including scheduling of ministry meetings/events and posting events on church website calendar
Monitor and maintain office supplies as well as other operational supplies
Check and distribute incoming mail
Prepare deposits and take them to the bank
Assist with payroll and financial data entry
Assist ministry leaders as necessary with clerical or administrative tasks and some event support
Attend ministry events as necessary
Attend Staff meetings as required

Special Skills, Knowledge and Training - The Administrative Assistant should:

Have a minimum of 1 year experience in an Administrative Assistant position.
Have strong clerical skills to include: Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite programs (Publisher, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task and handle requests from multiple sources
Have strong and effective editorial and verbal skills (proficient in English)
Have a caring attitude, excellent people skills, high integrity and exercise strict discretion and confidentiality
Have or quickly develop a working knowledge of Calvary's organizational structure, ministries and protocols

Level of Responsibility:

The Administrative Assistant reports to the Senior Pastor and works with the Ministerial staff, as well as the Office Administrator/Bookkeeper. The person in this position uses initiative and discretion in their interaction with staff, congregants and visitors. Because of the nature of the role, the Administrative Assistant must demonstrate a high level of trust and the ability to protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality.

Nature of the Work:

The work involved in the position occurs primarily inside the Church facilities (1200 Putnam St. Antioch, CA 94509) and is generally sedentary in nature. The Administrative Assistant must be able to comfortably carry small to medium sized boxes (up to 50 lbs) and maneuver within the facility. Journey Church is a non-smoking facility.

The selected applicant must successfully pass a background check as part of the Journey Church Child Safety Protection Program and be willing to do random drug screening tests.
