POSITION SUMMARY: The West Oakland Initiative Academic Mentor works closely with the School Engagement Coach and is responsible for implementing high quality, comprehensive individualized intervention according to the set goals of the clients academic achievement plan. The Academic Mentor will provide 1:1 in-class support to scholars. The Academic Mentor will also serve as a tutor, with an emphasis on literacy, and serve as a role model for scholars. The Academic mentor monitors all data to determine effectiveness of program, and completes assigned documentation consistent with program guidelines ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Use educational motivational techniques to promote clients growth Provide 1.5 hours of 1:1 in-class support and/or small group pull outs per week to scholars on assigned case load Develop relationships and on-going communication with teachers and other school based staff Support scholars and teachers with the implementation of action steps to meet outcomes of goals set in the academic achievement plan Maintain all appropriate records including the completion and submission of client progress notes consistent with goals and objectives of academic achievement plan Meet regularly with School Engagement Coach Participate in academic progress meetings with SEC, parent(s) and teacher Help plan and facilitate DEAR Weeks and all other program activities Provide support to WOI and OFS scholars and families during summer months POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Participate in Lincoln quality improvement activities Attend required meetings as assigned Follow Lincoln policies and procedures Participate in Lincoln, in-service training programs Understand and follow all Lincoln safety policies, procedures and rules Perform all job duties safely Attend all required safety training sessions Identify and immediately report all workplace hazards, safety rule violations, near misses, and work-related injuries Perform other duties as assigned EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Experience working with children and families and demonstrated capability as an educator High school diploma; Two years of college preferred Strong leadership skills as well as the ability to work in a cooperative management environment Excellent verbal and written communication, in addition to being skilled with interpersonal discourse, time management, and organizational skills Proven ability to identify issues and create solutions using presentation, technical and business documentation skills Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to and competence in dealing with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client population Demonstrated strong organizational, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external resource
