serves a campus community of undergraduate students graduate students faculty and approximately alumni The University Library has approximately FTE employees and comprises campus libraries including the Doe Moffitt Libraries The Bancroft Library the CV Starr East Asian Library and subject specialty libraries The University Library has a history of sustained annual fundraising of million and is preparing to launch a major campaign with a goal likely to exceed million The University Library as a public goods provider of services and resources to all of campus is in the uniquely enviable resources The collections include remarkable special and rare collections including the leading collection of Western Americana in the world the largest US collection of ancient papyrus the most documenting the history of twentieth century Chinese cinema The University Library provides extensive instruction participating in hundreds of classes and contacting thousands of students each year The University Library is a leader in advancing the finding use evaluation and dissemination of information in the st century with several major initiatives underway or planned that appeal to donors These include a program to transform the ecosystem of scholarly communications with primary focus on open access publishing a program to digitize and disseminate its vast collections as freely and widely as intellectual property restrictions permit a program to develop the skills and practices necessary to support the management and preservation for future reuse of the vast resources of data now being generated and a program to develop state of the art connected learning hubs for students facilities that provide space expert instruction and consultation and access to information resources and the latest information technologies to enable students to connect to each other for collaborative work using the world s vast information resources Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Development the Director of Major and Leadership Gifts is a front line fundraiser who works independently and with fellow Library fundraisers to identify cultivate solicit and structure major leadership and special gifts from individuals and foundations Focusing on commitments of and above the position manages a portfolio of major gifts prospects and makes at least substantive contacts per month eg moves that advance a relationship The Director raises at least M annually for core support and actively fundraises for the M Campaign for the Center for Connected Learning as well as other major Library Initiatives The position will work closely with the Library Board and the Friends of the Bancroft Library The Director of Major and Leadership Gifts will work closely with the Executive Director of Development University Librarian volunteers and campus administrators to leverage and maximize substantial giving to the Library Through this collaboration the Director of Major and Leadership Gifts will develop and implement solicitation plans for prospects and manage the full solicitation process a from the identification and staffing of the appropriate volunteer or solicitor to the development of compelling oral and written proposals The Director of Major and Leadership Gifts has responsibility for managing relationships with some of the Library s most valued donors and is an important resource of fundraising knowledge and expertise The Director will train manage and motivate major gift volunteers as well as provide fundraising guidance to the Library administration and subject a specialty librarians This position will work collaboratively with University Development and Alumni Relations and unit fundraising colleagues throughout the campus Required Qualifications Expert knowledge of all aspects of fundraising and donor relations Successful involvement with capital and or endowment campaigns Experience in planned giving A proven track record of successful major and leadership gifts fundraising Advanced skill in making persuasive and compelling presentations of an organization s goals objectives and securing gifts Exceptional written oral and interpersonal skills Proven ability to develop and foster relationships with people at all levels of an organization and to collaborate and influence at a high level Evidence of self motivation and ability to work both independently and in teams with high personal standards of excellence Excellent analytical critical thinking and problem solving skills Strong strategic planning and project management skills related to setting and monitoring goals developing plans and timelines and measuring success Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities and to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly collaborative fast paced goal oriented environment Advanced skill to meet predetermined goals and objectives through effective program project planning organization execution and evaluation Advanced analytical critical thinking problem recognition avoidance resolution skills Skill to meet or exceed fundraising goals and objectives Preferred Qualifications Bachelor s degree in related area and or equivalent experience training Minimum of years of experience in all aspects of modern fundraising including knowledge of moves management metrics and campaign strategic planning principles Experience identifying cultivating and directly soliciting major gifts in
