Job Description
Peralta Service Corporation (PSC), a subsidiary of The Unity Council is a nonprofit social enterprise that generates revenue to achieve social outcomes related to increasing the economic self:sufficiency of low:income adults, with barriers to employment through the provision of workforce development training and living:wage employment. As a nonprofit organization, ownership is public and ultimately lies in community stakeholders, rather than investors. Therefore, any profits generated by Peralta Service Corporation are reinvested in the company and used to strengthen the social enterprise.
PSC was established in 1975 as a social enterprise subsidiary of the Unity Council. After a period of dormancy, the subsidiary was revived in 2000 and began operating a successful commercial property maintenance program and safety and neighborhood ambassador program that currently employs between 50:60 adults and performs contract services for approximately 25 different entities.
Position Summary
The Director is responsible for managing and maintaining existing client contracts, staff and program finances. The Director will have primary responsibility for maintaining client relationships, marketing and developing new relationships that ultimately lead to new business. The Director will address personnel issues such, performance management, employment practices and employee relations. The Director will work closely with Human Resources to fill the needs of the client contracts and the needs of employees. This position will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to grow PSC revenue, the scope of the program and depth of training and services for the employee. The Director will create and manage annual budgets and manage all aspects of daily operations of PSC. Additionally the Director may be asked to present to the Board of Directors and to participate in grant writing where applicable for the program.
General Duties
Build and develop customer relationships, strategic alliances, industry contacts, and service providers to forward PSC mission statement. Promote and maintain an environment of exceptional customer service both internally and externally.
Support supervisory staff in maintaining organizational focus, and the use of best business practices.
Develop the operations for the social enterprise focusing on good financial practices, customer satisfaction, best business practices and employee growth and development.
Represent the organization to the public and foster a positive image to clients and supporters.
Utilize business experience to help improve communities and to support the employees ability to become financially independent.
Management and Development
Create a work environment that fosters teamwork, personal growth, confidence, and success.
Supervise, mentor, and develop team.
Source, hire and train team, both effectively and within budget.
Ensure employees are adhering to company policy and administering practices in a supportive and equitable manner.
Motivate and support staff.
Financial Management
Prepare annual draft budget.
Manage budget and control expenses.
Develop financial projections.
Develop and monitor financial reports.
Manage supervisors and their direct reports to ensure the operations runs in a timely and cost:effective manner.
Monitor cost to minimize labor overruns, make recommendations and implements solutions as directed.
Establish and manage the appropriate financial and operational measures and policies to ensure smooth business operations.
BA or equivalent degree required, Masters degree preferred in any of the following disciplines: Business, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Welfare, or other related field.
Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in a nonprofit or socially responsible organization.
