We are seeking a Research Technologist to work in our Advance Systems Engineering and Deployment group for developing prototype hardware\\.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Work individually or as team to deliver custom fabricated electrical cables and wiring harnesses as specified by our weapon system partners\\. To complete the work, it will be necessary to work with common hand tools, soldering irons, and inspection microscopes to fabricate the subassemblies;
+ Use testing equipment and measurement devices to inspect work and ensure a quality, high\\-fidelity component\\. Coordinate or fabricate housing, boxes, and subassemblies chassis using common shop equipment such as a drill press, mill, laser engravers, and label makers;
+ Fabricate components and assemblies from 2\\-D and 3\\-D drawings using subtractive \\(mills, lathes, laser cutters\\) and additive manufacturing \\(3\\-D polymer printers\\) tools;
+ Assist senior members of the work force to assemble systems to meet project milestones and test schedules\\.;
+ Execute simple experiment test plans as instructed with minimal oversight and report collected data to principle engineer;
+ Incorporate Engineered Safety documentation, complying with ES&H requirements, planning and coordinating daily pre\\-and post\\-test activities such as setting up, monitoring, and adjusting equipment and diagnostics for the broader team\\.
+ High school diploma or equivalent plus relevant experience;
+ Aptitude and familiarity working with engineering, fabrication, and electronics technology;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\\-level security clearance\\.
+ Two\\-year degree or higher in STEM related engineering or a closely related field;
+ Relevant experience with common \\(laboratory\\) electrical measurement instrumentation, mechanical and/or electrical assemblies, test fixture ;fabrication/assembly;
+ Aptitude in troubleshooting and applying common laboratory test instrumentation;
+ Ability to read schematics and drawings \\(electrical and mechanical\\) for fabrication and testing;
+ Aptitude to assemble circuit boards using precision soldering techniques surface\\-mount microelectronic components;
+ Aptitude to operate laser cutters, mill, or a lathe;
+ Proficient with the use of hand and power tools;
+ Adhere and practice engineered safety, work planning and controls, and complying with ES&H requirements;
+ Demonstrated skills working with team members conducting various projects;
+ Good verbal and written communication skills\\.
Department Description:
The Advanced Systems Engineering and Deployment Department \\(8125\\) is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying engineered solutions to fundamental national security challenges in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats\\. The department is a multi\\-disciplinary organization comprised primarily of mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineers engaging in science\\-based engineering and component development to support a broad range of research and development activities\\. The projects within 8625 often involve teaming with other groups with expertise in molecular biology, synthetic chemistry, radiation physics, and nuclear weapons to develop prototypes and impact how researchers study fundamental phenomena or turn basic scientific understanding into functional capabilities\\. Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy \\(DOE\\) granted Q\\-level security clearance\\.
