The Philz Coffee Food Safety Quality Assurance Technician position is a highly collaborative role responsible for adherence to Universal Quality Assurance Principles. The Technician interacts with both the Retail Store s and the Roasting Plant to educate the staff in Quality Assurance, Food Safety regulations and Health Code compliance. The emphasis is targeted to prepared and ready to eat food and beverages. Collaboration with the supply chain department to develop and implement a prepared and ready to eat food / beverage supplier qualification program is essential. To be successful the Technician must understand The Food Safety Modernization Act, HACCP ,and have excellent cross-functional skills, a high sense of urgency, excellent time management practices, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a great sense of accountability.
? Collaborates with the Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager to promote the improvement and execution of prepared and ready to eat food and beverages at the retail stores.
? Performance of Audits at the retail stores using the Philz Coffee Retail Store Audit Standards.
? Analysis of third party audit data to identify risks, problems and improvement opportunities.
? Monitor quality assurance programs to ensure they meet or exceed Philz Coffee standards.
? Monitors execution of new company prepared and ready to eat food and beverage initiatives to ensure alignment with quality assurance standards.
? Provide guidance and direction to ensure in-store understanding and compliance with Philz Coffee standards and local health codes.
? Uses the established audit standards to assess store qualities evaluate areas of concern for improvement.
? Write detailed audit reports and provide support and direction to suppliers to drive continuous quality improvement.
? Assures the effectiveness of the corrective and preventive actions process based upon uniform company standards.
? Assure that all ready to eat food products produced by suppliers are safe for consumption and conform to product design and uniformity.
? Effectively communicates and maintains successful relationships with R&D, Product implementation, and the Procurement teams.
? Collaborate with supply chain team to develop and implement a prepared and ready to eat food and beverage vendor qualification and audit program.
? Collaborate with Roasting Plant personnel to educate, develop and implement a FSMA internal audit and corrective action program.
? This role will also be responsible for responding to customer complaints regarding product quality, and work with our supply chain to improve processes to minimize complaints.
? Assist in the development and implementation of a traceability, hold and recall program.
? Excellent communication and attention to details along with an ability to work independently and as part of a team is an essential component.
? Must have the ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
? Ability to function independently and manage own scheduling and priorities is essential.
? Ability to provide Education and training in ServSafe Manager and Food Handler Certification.
? Ability to communicate effectively with operations, facilities and additional support services.
? Ability to make progress despite setbacks or lack of clarity.
? Ability to effectively provide coaching and direction to cross-functional teams.
? Strives for continuous improvement and drives key departmental goals and objectives.
? Follows safe operating procedures, support safety programs and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and team member s safety.
? A Bachelor s Degree in a science related profession (e.g. Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, related technical field or equivalent experience).
? 3-5 years of Supplier Quality Assurance experience in the food manufacturing industry.
? An advanced understanding of quality systems with an emphasis on auditing of suppliers/vendors and food safety programs.
? In depth knowledge of microbiological challenge studies and pasteurization of spices and dry ingredients.
? Effective analytical, negotiation, problem solving, and communication skills
? Lead Auditor Certification through a recognized Professional Organization is preferred
? Experience with:
o FSMA/HACCP and food safety management
o GFSI and FSSC 22000 Food safety schemes
o Auditing
o Problem solving
o Food microbiology
o Allergen Control Program
o Sanitation
o Pest Control Management
? Excellent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
? Read, write and speak English
? Ability to travel 50 -60% of the time and perform work in retail stores, plant environment and ready to eat/drink vendor supplier facilities.
? Ability to contribute to a positive work atmosphere by demonstrating the Philz Culture,behaving and communicating in a professional manner with customers, suppliers, and co-workers
? Must be able to follow human work safety safety rules
? Physically able to lift a 40-75 lbs.
