Interested in working for a growing firm for your internship? Hatch's Urban Solutions group is looking for an adaptable, self:motivated planning or economic development graduate student. We established our Oakland office last year and are looking to engage a talented intern for the summer with the possibility of continuing the internship through the 2018 academic year.
The primary emphasis of our Oakland team is to promote socioeconomic and environmental sustainability in infrastructure, city planning, and policy projects. We do this through rigorous economic planning techniques and developing innovative analytical approaches to varied domestic and international contexts. We also work closely with other Hatch offices around the globe on planning and economic issues.
Qualified candidates will have excellent analytical and communications skills with education in sustainability planning, urban and real estate economics, urban planning, or policy modeling/design. The candidate must have an interest in the economics of sustainability, cities and planning, with an emphasis on quantitative analytical approaches to developing innovative solutions to complex challenges facing cities, regions, and other private and non:profit clients.
Sample projects include:
Pro formas, feasibility analyses and market studies for urban redevelopment.
Statistical and case:study research on trends in urbanization.
Socioeconomic analyses for environmental impact reports.
Fiscal impact analyses for transit oriented developments.
Financing strategies for environmental improvements or infrastructure.
Infrastructure triple bottom line analyses.
Education and Skill Requirements:
Ideally, candidates will be earning a master's degree in Urban Planning, Sustainable Design, Environmental Economics and Management, or a related field.
Demonstrated interest and knowledge of the principles and practices of sustainability planning with an emphasis on economic development, green development economics, and land:use/environmental policy design. Experience in related fields advantageous.
Quantitative skills; experience with financial and economic analysis and modeling desirable.
Detail:oriented, a willingness to continuously learn and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline driven team environment.
Excellent communication and writing skills are critical.
Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite imperative; experience with quantitative/statistical programs such as SAS, SPSS and/or graphic suites such as Adobe Creative Cloud desirable.
