Reporting to the Site Manager, our general laborer performs general manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, sorting, lifting and moving materials for recycling, disposal or storage. Assists in a wide variety of functions involving manual labor tasks as needed. This position works under direct supervision of the Operations Manager.
Essential Functions
1. Assist maintenance and operations personnel in performing routine duties
2. Perform repetitive movement with moderate to heavy lifting
3. Perform general clean-up in all operational areas of worksite – maintaining neat and clean work area
4. Report any potential operational or safety problems to supervisor
5. Must adhere to all company and governmental safety rules, regulations and practices
6. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors and peers
7. Must be able to work shift work – seven days a week – if required
8. Must rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of this job

Knowledge and Skills
1. Well organized, team oriented and highly motivated
2. Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in maintenance work
3. Must be able to follow directions and perform work per instructions. Must be able to follow building maps to locate work areas
4. Strong communication skills
5. Be able to communicate with co-workers and/or customers and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
Education and Work Experience
1. High School Diploma or GED preferred
2. One (1) year work experience as a general laborer preferred
3. Must be able to work day and overnight shift assignments
Work Environment
1. Small-to-large warehouse environment
2. Safety glasses required while performing certain tasks
3. Fast paced work environment.
4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
5. Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and shop environments.
6. Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
Requirements
1. Be able to pass criminal background requirements
2. Must have a valid driver’s license, and possess and maintain a good driving record.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear. Physical requirements include stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 40 lbs. of office and facilities equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Some sitting while driving vehicles such as tugs. Ongoing grasping of brooms, trash barrels, etc. Pushing/pulling of gondolas and sand spreading equipment. Some hand/wrist rotation may occur while turning the steering wheel of a tug.
