Job Summary:
The Senior Systems Engineer manages the overall systems engineering process for the entire lifecycle of the product, including development, test, deployment, sales, support, and decommissioning. This process includes the translation of market and customer needs into customer use cases and operational scenarios (concept of operations) and the development and management of the system, subsystems, and component requirements. The Senior Systems Engineer will also conduct requirements and systems analysis, system/subsystem architectural modeling, functional decomposition, systems performance analysis, and product verification and verification planning.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop the product concept of operations, customer use cases, and operational scenarios
Drive direction and support trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance and design assessments
In conjunction with Design Engineering, create and manage system requirements and the requirements decomposition process and guide the development of functional and physical architectures and system specifications that meet the system requirements
Create and manage the requirements verification methods, requirements database, and compliance and traceability matrices to ensure that as the system design/build matures it satisfies each system requirement
Collaborate with other engineers and partners to ensure systems requirements and plans meet business needs, which may involve negotiating requirements with internal customers, such as, Design Engineering, Project Management, and Business Development, leveraging Systems Engineering Management Planning documentation
In conjunction with the Project Manager, manage the individual project risks (identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies to technical leadership and project management)
Prepare and present system engineering materials during design reviews and other formal program reviews
Support systems integration and test activities, system verification, system validation, and system safety efforts
Leverage engineering experience to highlight integration checkpoints necessary between systems engineering and other engineering disciplines
Ensure engineering quality through application of best practices in systems engineering, including requirements management, verification and validation, design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA), etc.
Support the development of systems engineering best practices, processes, and continuous improvement initiatives
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong analytical, problem:solving, and critical thinking skills
Significant experience with systems engineering and product development for complex systems
Proven and demonstrated experience in the full life cycle of products from concept to production including system architecture, requirements, design implementation, integration, and
verification/validation; experience with highly regulated industries and with the deployment of large, complex, industrial products via engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms highly desired
Strong understanding of good development and systems engineering processes, such as lean product development, Design for Excellence (DFX), Six Sigma concepts, value engineering, and product life cycle management
Expertise in requirements management and product lifecycle management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Oracle Agile, Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, etc.)
Outstanding written communication skills
Strong verbal communication skills for internal and customer presentations
Strong practical organization, facilitation, and arbitration skills
Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or related field required
Masters of Science in Systems Engineering desired
At least 10 years of systems engineering experience
