The Oakland, CA office of WSP USA has a current opening for a Traction Power Engineer II to work on and design for different rail projects. The selected candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:Facility Power Supply and Distribution Design Engineer for Rail Transit SystemsEnsure that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects for clientsProject work would include Power Supply and Distribution Design for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail and High Speed Rail Projects operating on Overhead Contact or Third Rail SystemsUtilizes sound electrical engineering practices to develop designs and reportsPrepares power system studies for facility LV and HV power supply and distribution systems, LV emergency power and distribution systems, grounding and facility lighting systemsDevelop and review designs and technical specificationsDevelop cost estimates and projectionsParticipate in project working meetingsCompleteness and accuracy of design team workReview shop drawings, record changes and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors and client representatives as requiredSupport the installation and testing of traction power systems components and softwarePerforms site investigations in substations and along railroad tracksIdentify construction costs trending out of budgetWork location would include both Home Office and short term travel to Cities installing or planning to install Electrified Transit Systems. Long term field assignments are also available.Education Required:BSCEE / Electrical Engineering Degree preferredEIT preferred Experience/Skills Required:Minimum 3-5 years of experience of the design, construction, testing and commissioning of Facility Power Supply and Distribution Systems and Equipment, ie:AC facility power substationsCable plantCircuit breakersSwitchgearTransformersGeneratorsUninterruptible Power SuppliesControl CircuitrySCADA and PLC Protection SystemsLightingGrounding and bondingUnderground structures and ductbanksConduit and cable tray systemsFamiliarity with Design Drawings and Specifications for Traction Power Supply and Distribution Systems and related equipmentExperience working on large transit/railroad, industrial and/or utility projectsKnowledge of commercial AC power system analysis software (load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, grounding grid design is a plusStrong communication skills and ability to work with others, including multidisciplinary staff in different officesExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Must possess a valid driver's license The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
