You and your guests/colleagues are cordially invited...
The Existential Expedition Ideal topic and tools to support and empower everyone! Besides finding a worm in your salad, the quickest way to stop any conversation is to ask people about their beliefs regarding death and spirituality. Many people face these issues every day but often feel uncomfortable and stressed by it. Imagine finding yourself in a room with Debra Jarvis, where people feel encouraged to share about how their lives have brought them to this moment and everyone is describing their choice to live a more fully engaged life, including examining their beliefs and decisions about spirituality, opening to the divinity within, and allowing death and dying to live and breathe openly in their awareness and feelings. Exploring questions about our own underlying beliefs and assumptions around spirituality, death and dying will help us clarify our own beliefs and empower us to be more comfortable talking with patients, clients, friends and family members about these issues. This evocative, interactive workshop will provide a safe forum for discussion and exploration of: • life’s meaning • spirituality • death and grief • integration of beliefs Using a combination of brief lectures, small group sharing, poetry and journaling, music and guided imagery, and gentle movement, we will discuss in a spirit of inquiry, curiosity, discovery and collaboration. Debra and Lloyd will create a space where it is safe to unwind, explore and discover new aspects about ourselves and each other – and journey deeply into our hearts and feelings. Aspects of childhood beliefs, patterned behavior, and cultural norms will provide a few of the guideposts for our sharing. Participants can expect to: gain new perspectives, increase their comfort level when discussing these issues, and gain a deeper understanding of their beliefs. This workshop is designed for all audiences and levels: medical/healing arts * clergy * hospice/respite * counselors * social workers * emergency/rescue/fire/law enforcement personnel * anyone dealing with grief, loss, death and/or spirituality * and everyone who desires to explore these essential, practical issues more deeply. << IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT >> CEU’s available: RNs * Marriage/Family Therapists (MFT) * Licensed Social Workers (LCW) (NOTE: partial scholarships and payment options also available ... call Lloyd to discuss!) Benefit for Healing Journeys: “The Existential Expedition,” is a community-enriching offering and fundraiser for Healing Journeys, a wonderful non-profit organization whose mission is to support healing, activate hope, and promote thriving. Meals on Wheels Senior Outreach Services presents:
Meals on Wheels 'Dine Out' Event Launch Tuesday, October 20, 3:30pm-4:30pm, Walnut Creek MORE INFO: http://www.mowsos.org LOCAL RESTAURANTS RALLY TO SUPPORT MEALS ON WHEELS "DINE OUT" PROGRAM - OFFICIAL LAUNCH CEREMONY OCTOBER 20TH, WALNUT CREEK SENIOR CENTER - November Becomes Meals on Wheels Month In response to the considerable pressure the precarious economy and budget cuts have put on local support services, specifically for senior citizens, Meals on Wheels is pleased to proclaim November as "Meals on Wheels Month" and introduce its new annual fundraiser, Dine Out. Over 30 local restaurants (and counting) throughout Contra Costa County have risen to the occasion and partnered with the Dine Out program and their dining clientele to help raise much needed funding for hot meals delivered to seniors in need. You're invited to attend the official launch ceremony of the Meals for Wheels Dine Out program on Tuesday, October 20th at 3:30pm at the Walnut Creek Senior Center, located at 1375 Civic Center Drive. Stanford's Restaurant & Bar of Walnut Creek will be graciously providing catering and beverages for the day's festivities. Enjoy the opportunity to meet Meals on Wheels staff, volunteers, local government representatives and to learn more about this vital program. For over 40 years, Meals on Wheels has helped fight hunger and loneliness among thousands of seniors in our county, delivering nearly 200,000 meals last year in the Diablo Valley alone. Beyond the nutritious meals provided to homebound seniors over the age of 60, Meals on Wheels volunteers provide wellness checks and companionship that allows seniors to live at home in safety, comfort and with dignity for as long as possible. Additionally, recent state and county budget cuts have eliminated support for 2,700 low income seniors currently receiving assistance through In-Home Supportive Services. These seniors will now be forced to turn to Meals on Wheels, placing considerable strain on program resources already under significant stress to meet the needs of our growing, aging community.
