Virtuoso Works for Micro Orchestra

Friday, November 27, 8:00pm-10:00pm, Palo Alto

MORE INFO: http://www.albanyconsort.com

Bach: Cantata 82 - Ich Habe Genug
Telemann: Concerto for recorder, flute and strings
Rameau: Pieces de clavecin en concert
Handel: Messiah movements arranged for harpsichord duet Works by Muffat

Jonathan Salzedo, harpsichord; Marion Rubinstein, recorder/organ/harpsichord Greer Ellison, flute; Christa Pfeiffer, soprano David Wilson, Laura Rubinstein-Salzedo, violins; Daria D'Andrea, viola Farley Pearce, cello/viola da gamba; Roy Whelden violone/viola da gamba

The idea of a micro-orchestra is to be at the cutting edge of the most experimental music from the 18th century. We love the fact that we can play big fat sounding pieces by Bach and Telemann with only a very few players, then with exactly the same lineup play intimate music by their pals. This concert covers the gamut of virtuosity, including Rameau's brilliance in putting the harpsichord in the front line rather than at the back. And if you have ever thought that there is just too much singing in Handel's Messiah, you will really like our version for harpsichord alone, and we will let you hum along in your favorite bits.

The Woman in Black

This winter thriller is the bone-chilling, insidiously eerie story of young Arthur Kipps, a solicitor sent to a remote house on England's bleak East Coast. Here, Mrs. Alice Drablow, a stern and cruel woman, lived and died. Unaware of the tragic secrets that lie behind the shuttered windows, Kipps has been sent to sort out her estate. The locals believe the house is cursed, and refuse to talk about the mysterious woman in black who lurks in the marshes. But when he is forced to spend a night alone in the mansion, cut off from the mainland by the rising tide, the horrifying truth reveals itself. "One of the most brilliantly effective spine-chillers you will ever encounter," writes The Daily Telegraph.

The Woman in Black is a smash hit from the England where it is the second longest running show in London. It treads in the footsteps of the classic ghost story, following the tradition of Charles Dickens and Edgar Allen Poe. Not just an audience favorite, The Woman in Black is the winner of multiple awards (LA Times Critics Choice, 4 Drama Critics Circle Awards, and a Backstage West Critics Pick).

Albert Goodwyn of the SF Bay Times writes-- "Second Wind effortlessly enthralls with their taut, gripping suspense and intense pacing."

"Amy Goodman has taken investigative journalism to new heights of exciting, informative, and probing analysis."-Noam Chomsky

"You can learn more of the truth about Washington and the world from one week of Amy Goodman's Democracy Now! (www.democracynow.org) than from a month of Sunday morning talk shows. Make that a year of Sunday talk shows. That's because Amy, as you will discover on every page of this book, knows the critical question for journalists is how close they are to the truth, not how close they are to power."--From the Preface by Bill Moyers

Amy Goodman, award-winning host of the daily internationally broadcast radio and television program Democracy Now!, breaks through the corporate media's lies, sound bites, and silence in this wide-ranging new collection of articles. In place of the usual suspects-the "experts" who, in Goodman's words, "know so little about so much, explain the world to us, and get it so wrong"-this accessible, lively collection allows the voices the corporate media exclude and ignore to be heard loud and clear.

Amy Goodman is an award-winning investigative journalist and syndicated columnist, author and the host/executive producer of Democracy Now! airing on nearly 800 stations worldwide. Goodman is the first journalist to receive the Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize.' Goodman is the co-author of three New York Times bestsellers: Standing Up to the Madness, Static, and The Exception to the Rulers.

'Baby Jane Unleashed' at supperclub on Friday the 13th!

Friday, November 13, 7:00pm-11:00pm, San Francisco

MORE INFO: http://www.supperclub.com/index.php?ver_location=sanfrancisco

Evening Parodies Joan Crawford & Bette Davis with Female Impersonators & Dark Surprises

On Friday, November 13th, supperclub, San Francisco's outrageous restaurant nightclub experience, will present Baby Jane Unleashed, a tribute to the famous 1960's psychological thriller film that starred those twisted sisters Blanche and Baby Jane, played by Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.

Featuring parody performances by gender-illusionist superstars Matthew Martin and J. Conrad Frank, Baby Jane Unleashed will also mark the world premiere of clips from the upcoming 2010 film Baby Jane?, which also stars Martin and Frank. Other cast members from the film including famous drag queen, Heklina, and noted actor Mike Finn will appear at Baby Jane Unleashed and the electro-pop duo Ejector, who created the soundtrack for the film's music video, will perform live.

Edme Straver, supperclub's General Manager said, "Guests should expect a fun and fantastic feast for the senses at Baby Jane Unleashed. The food, live entertainment, film clip preview and dark surprises should be enough to make this Friday the 13th unforgettable for all that attend." supperclub's Executive Chef, Daan Jetten, also promises a memorable meal, matched to the deliciously quirky theme of the evening. supperclub staff, dressed in insane-assylum-bondage attire, will serve the four-course dinner to guests lounging on white "padded-room inspired" beds.

The Director of the film Baby Jane?, Billy Clift, said, "I couldn't think of a more perfect way and more appropriate place to celebrate our movie's launch than supperclub. It should be a wickedly good time full of unexpected twists and turns, just like our movie."

Tickets for Baby Jane Unleashed at supperclub are $65, which includes the 4-course prix fixe dinner and entertainment, and are available at www.supperclub.com or by calling 415-348-0900. More information about the film Baby Jane? can be found at http://babyjane2009.com/
