Wafaa Yasin, curated by Lauren Schell Dickens, on view October 30 – November 30, 2012 at Pro Arts’ gallery in downtown Oakland. The exhibition will be accompanied by an illustrated catalogue featuring an essay on Yasin’s work by Michele Carlson.

2 x 2 Solos: Wafaa Yasin brings together two evolving projects that began as site-specific video performances: We All Belong to the same Line (2011/2012) and Let’s say that this was a Mountain (2012). The locations in Yasin’s works act as dual referents, shifting from the San Francisco Bay to the Mediterranean Sea and Galilean Hills. Yasin’s body is at the crux of these works, as a site of contestation and struggle, which she uses to explore the relationship between politics, place, and identity.
