In addition, I am a BMI writer with compositions currently playing throughout the world, so my perspective is not just from the drummer’s chair. My focus now is teaching what I’ve learned, as my many teachers have done for me.

Woman tabla, didgeridoo, arabic tambourine (riq), djembe teacher available

posted: November 5, 2009, 08:00 AM

Replytabla_queen@yahoo.com

Amber Field (amberfieldmusic.com) studied classical
Indian music (tabla and esraj) in India at Visva
Bharati University for 2 years and also studied Arabic
and Latin percussion at Community Music Center. A
world fusion specialist, her private lessons are
designed to students’ skill levels and needs, and help
them become solid accompanists and soloists. Amber
takes great pride in her teaching, encouragement,
support, and technical expertise. She opens students
to their fullest potentials by assisting them in
discovering themselves. She is available to teach
absolute beginners to high intermediate students while
helping them on their musical journeys. In particular,
she encourages and supports more women and queer women
of color in learning music.

Didgeridoo – Amber has been teaching the basic drone,
rhythmic techniques, coloring, melodic playing, cheek
tapping, animal sounds, overblowing, and circular
breathing for the last 6 years. Students will be able
to use their breath and sounds to express themselves
and make music while circular breathing. They will be
able to play didgeridoo with other instruments or
solo. Her specialties in didgeridoo include sound
healing, ambient sounds, trance, and rock.

Tabla - Amber teaches tuning, the fundamental strokes,
basic taals (rhythms), kaydas, tukras, chakkardars,
relas, gats, and other world rhythms on tabla.
Students will know all the basic rhythms such as
teentaal (16 beat), Ektaal (12 beat), Jhaptaal (10
beat), Kaharwa (8 beat), Rupak (7 beat), and Dadra (6
beat). Her specialty is using tabla in a variety of
world fusion and improvisational settings including
kirtan. Students will also be able to sing bhajans and
other songs and accompany themselves on tabla.

Djembe - For the last 7 years, Amber has been teaching
many traditional rhythms such as Muribayasa, Calipso,
Kuku, Bomba, Bembe, and Tiriba. Students will be
comfortable playing in drum circles, accompanying
other instruments, and soloing after taking her
lessons. They will also be able to accompany
themselves on djembe as they sing.

Arabic tambourine (riq) — For 7 years, Amber has been
teaching all the basic belly dancing rhythms (ayyub,
baladi, maqsum, malfuf, saidi, chiftetelli, masmoudi,
as well as bolero, rumba, latin, etc). Students will
be able to play along to all kinds of music, accompany
themselves as they sing, and sound like a mini-drumkit
after taking her riq lessons.

Esraj – For 2 years, Amber has been teaching beginning
esraj. Students will learn bowing techniques,
fingering, tuning, traditional Indian scales (ragas),
double bowing techniques, and more.

Amber charges $60/hour and $30/half hour for lessons.
Sliding scale is available for lower-income students.

Her website amberfieldmusic.com includes more
information about lessons as well as sound clips.

Hello,

I currently have openings for new drum set students in Oakland and Berkeley.

I have taught music professionally for nearly a decade, at my own private instruction studio, and as faculty at Music Maker School in Acton, MA and Red House Studios in Walnut Creek, CA. This is for all the bands looking for a drummer as well as all the bands looking for a bassist.

I am a guitar player who has landed possibly THE best bassist in the whole region. This guy is like Cliff Burton and Ryan Martini rolled into one. With very inpressive gear.
I also have landed a prodigy on the drums. This guy shreds his 9 piece drum kit in the style of Danny Carey. Also, a very nice kit.

Together, we own a private studio, Massive PA system (enough to thump 3000 people in the chest with kick drum), Lighting rig, 24 channel live board & outboard gear.

Now to my point.....

All of you singers out there still looking for a bassist and/or drummer to complete your band, take one day to come try out for something that is rolling pretty well all ready. We are working with a label, and have everything at our disposal to put on our OWN SHOWS. Imagine not having to deal with the venues! We call the shots! We can go anywhere we want....set up....and put on a fully functional rock show. We have sooo much to offer. Send us a demo, if we dig it, come out to our studio (not SRS or HOH, an actual private studio) on your day off from your bands practice and see if the vibe is there. Time to make a career choice guys. There is a lot of talent out there, it just needs to be organized better. This is a great opportunity for the open minded.

Please send a demo with a note telling us your age and a little background about yourself.

Thanks a lot guys!!
